You wade through shallow water while digital koi react to your movement. You pass through a room where the floor swallows your feet. You stand in a space so full of hanging flowers it feels genuinely impossible.

The newer Forest Area, which opened in January 2025, adds even more room to explore. Getting there is straightforward: Toyosu Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, or Shin-Toyosu on the Yurikamome Line.

This one is different from the rest of the teamLab lineup, and that's the point. Where other venues are purpose-built indoor spaces, the Botanical Garden experience takes place outside after dark, using Nagai Botanical Garden's actual plants, lake, and ecosystem as the canvas.

Wind moves the installations. Rain changes them. Your footsteps trigger light ripples across the lake. The effect is genuinely strange in the best possible way. It's less intense than Planets, and arguably more beautiful.

teamLab Forest is inside the Boss E.ZO FUKUOKA complex attached to Mizuho PayPay Dome. It's the most kid-interactive of the Japanese venues. The museum splits into two sections: Catch and Collect Forest, where kids use an app to catch, identify, and release digital creatures, and Forest of Motion, which is a more traditional immersive art environment where your body directly shapes what you see.

For families with kids who need to feel like they're doing something rather than just witnessing it, teamLab Forest is the one.

teamLab SuperNature Macao

Located inside The Venetian Macao, teamLab SuperNature spans 5,000 square meters across a three-dimensional space with varying elevations and artworks that reach 8 meters tall. This is the most physically ambitious of the teamLab spaces, designed for genuine bodily exploration rather than just walking through rooms.

The Floating Flower Garden here, with over 8,000 living orchids blooming in mid-air, is particularly impressive. There's also EN TEA HOUSE, where flowers bloom inside your teacup.

Tickets from $22.05 USD on Klook. A strong option if you're passing through Macau or combining with a Hong Kong trip.

teamLab Future Park Okinawa

Future Park is teamLab's most educational concept, built specifically around co-creation. Kids draw creatures that come to life on screen. They roll glowing balls through an interactive orchestra. They design their own badges, towels, and t-shirts at the Sketch Factory to take home. It's less "jaw-dropping art museum" and more "interactive kids' creative workshop," which depending on the age of your kids might be exactly what you want.

teamLab Comparison: Which One Should You Book?

Our pick for first-timers: teamLab Planets Tokyo. It's the most iconic, has the highest review volume, and the water walk is something no amount of photos can fully prepare you for.

Best value: teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka at $11.49. For an evening activity in Osaka, it's hard to beat this on price or atmosphere.

Best for families with young kids: teamLab Future Park Okinawa, if you're there. teamLab Forest Fukuoka otherwise.

Tips for Visiting teamLab with Kids

teamLab Planets requires bare feet for the water walk sections, so easy slip-on shoes make the whole thing faster for families. Bring a small bag for shoes and socks. The museum does provide storage.

Mornings and weekday afternoons are noticeably less crowded than evenings and weekends. If you have flexibility, a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon visit at Planets will feel like a completely different experience than a Saturday night.

Photography is not only allowed but encouraged everywhere. The art is designed to be photographed. Phones, cameras, all of it is fine.

Keep in mind that small children will find some spaces genuinely disorienting. The Soft Black Hole room, with its unstable floor, tends to get reactions ranging from pure delight to mild panic depending on the kid. Worth knowing in advance.
