Best Holafly eSIM Plans for Every Budget: Complete 2025 Destination Guide

We've had a Holafly eSIM active in at least one phone for most of the last three years. Japan. Thailand. Vietnam. Europe. Singapore. Hong Kong. We've tested them on Shinkansen trains doing 320km/h, in the thick of Osaka's Dotonbori crowds, on longtail boats in Krabi, and on overnight buses in Vietnam. We know what these plans cost, where they work brilliantly, and the one or two places they've made us want to hurl a phone into the South China Sea.

This guide is the real breakdown — what we actually pay, which destinations give the best daily rate, and the product shift that made the monthly plans genuinely worth it for long-term travelers. Use code ADAMANDLINDS at checkout for 5% off any destination eSIM. Browse all Holafly plans here.

How Holafly Pricing Actually Works

The thing most people miss is that Holafly's pricing is tiered by duration — the daily rate drops meaningfully as you commit to longer plans. A 1-day plan and a 30-day plan are the same product; the only difference is how long you stay. If you know you're in a country for 25 days, buying a 30-day plan is almost always cheaper than a 14-day plan plus a top-up.

The other thing worth knowing: the plan activates when you first enable data roaming, not when you purchase it. You can buy it weeks in advance, scan the QR code at home, and only "start the clock" when you land. We install it a few days before departure so we're not squinting at a QR code in the arrivals hall with three tired kids behind us.

Japan: Our Most-Tested Destination (325 Days and Counting)

We've spent 325 days in Japan across multiple trips since 2022, and the Holafly Japan eSIM has been with us for most of them. It runs on NTT Docomo's network, which covers the country exceptionally well — cities, rural temples, Shinkansen at full speed, and yes, the Tokyo subway tunnels where you'd expect signal to disappear. It mostly doesn't.

In practical terms: real-time translation of menus and train signs, Google Maps navigating Tokyo's subway system (still the most complex thing we've encountered anywhere in 33+ countries), keeping the kids occupied during long bullet train journeys between cities, and uploading YouTube videos without hunting for cafe wifi. We shot and uploaded content from Tokyo DisneySea, from a fishing restaurant in Shinjuku, from ryokans in Kyoto. The eSIM was never the bottleneck.

Thailand: 327 Days Across Every Corner of the Country

Thailand is our most-visited country by a slim margin over Japan, and we've used Holafly there from the very start — Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Ao Nang, Phuket, Koh Lanta. The eSIM runs on AIS, which has solid 4G coverage in every tourist area and in most rural ones too. We've had data on longtail boats in the Andaman Sea, in the hills above Chiang Mai, and on the overnight train south from Bangkok.

The practical test that matters for families: the kids do their online schoolwork every morning. That means consistent, reliable data every single day, not just when we're near good wifi. In 327 days in Thailand, Holafly has never been the reason school got cancelled. Connectivity in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (201 days there alone) is genuinely excellent.

Europe: Why the Regional Plan Is Worth It

Europe is where regional plans earn their keep. We crossed several borders on a long train trip — Paris, Germany, central Europe — and the ability to not think about connectivity at each crossing was worth every cent of the slight premium over single-country plans. No "which country are we in now?" moments. The kids streamed. We navigated. Nobody had a data-induced meltdown at a border.

The Holafly Europe regional eSIM covers 40+ countries including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Portugal, and more. For a multi-country itinerary it's almost always cheaper than buying separate plans, and considerably less admin.

Vietnam: 227 Days and Our Ongoing Base

Da Nang has been our home base in Vietnam for a combined 200 days, with stints in Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City on top of that. Vietnam's mobile infrastructure has improved noticeably since our first visit in 2022 — coverage in Da Nang and the major cities is consistently strong, and even in Hoi An's old town (where streets are narrow and buildings are old) data holds up well.

We're heading back to Da Nang in May 2026 for another three months. When we're based somewhere that long, the monthly Plans subscription makes more sense than stacking 30-day destination eSIMs — more on that below.

USA: Nationwide on T-Mobile

The Holafly USA eSIM runs on T-Mobile and covers all 50 states — cities, national parks, highways, most rural stretches. We have family in the US and pass through fairly regularly. The 31-day plan drops to $2.21/day, which is competitive for unlimited data on a major US network.

China: The eSIM That Works Behind the Firewall

China is a special case. We haven't done our China trip yet — it's planned for this year — but it's one of the destinations we've researched most carefully, and the reason we'd use the Holafly China eSIM specifically is the firewall situation. It runs on China Mobile's network and gives access to Western apps and services: Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, Gmail. Most eSIMs don't do that. For families travelling with kids who need to stay in touch with friends back home, or for anyone who depends on Google Maps, that distinction matters.

For the full breakdown including setup tips, read our Holafly China eSIM guide.

Duration Price (after code) Daily Rate Notes
1 Day$3.70$3.70/day240-hr transit visa

Southeast Asia Regional: When You're Moving Between Countries

If you're doing Thailand then Vietnam then Cambodia, or any multi-country Southeast Asia route, the Asia regional plan is worth comparing against individual destination eSIMs. Coverage includes Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and more.

For our Da Nang base we tend to use the Vietnam destination eSIM for long stays. For shorter multi-country trips — say, Bangkok for two weeks then Chiang Mai then Hanoi — the regional plan often wins on price and always wins on convenience.

When Monthly Plans Make More Sense

For any trip longer than 30 days, or if you're moving countries often enough that buying individual destination eSIMs gets tedious, Holafly's Plans subscription changes the calculation. One eSIM. One monthly price. 160+ destinations. No buying a new plan every time you cross a border.

Plan Monthly Price Data
Plans Light $49.90/month 25GB global
Plans Unlimited $64.90/month Unlimited global

Both include hotspot sharing, cancel anytime, and a 22% discount if you pay annually — stackable with code ADAMANDLINDS for around 30% total off. If you subscribed on or after November 4, 2025, there's also an Always On benefit: cancel and you still get 1GB/month free across 70+ countries as a permanent backup. Small detail, but it means you're never completely offline between trips.

The break-even is simple. A 30-day destination eSIM runs roughly $71 with our code. The Unlimited monthly plan is $64.90 and covers every country you visit that month. Once you're staying longer than 30 days or crossing more than one border, the Plans subscription is almost always cheaper.

How We Handle Connectivity for a Family of Five

One unlimited Holafly eSIM with hotspot covers the kids' iPads for schoolwork, Duolingo, and entertainment. We've been doing this since 2022 and it works well for everyday use. Hotspot data is capped at 500MB/day on most destination eSIMs; the monthly Plans subscription gives unlimited hotspot, which matters when three kids are simultaneously doing their morning school sessions.

When both adults need independent data — navigating separately, working remotely, on video calls at the same time — we run two eSIMs. Even then, two destination eSIMs together cost less than international roaming on a single phone from most home carriers. For the full picture of what works and what's failed us, see our complete Holafly review including the downsides.

Getting the Best Value: The Short Version

Buy longer durations when you can — the daily rate drops at 14 days and again at 30. If you're traveling more than 60 days across multiple countries, the monthly Plans subscription beats stacking destination eSIMs on both price and convenience. Activate on arrival, not at purchase. Download offline maps before you land. Always use ADAMANDLINDS at checkout for 5% off any destination plan.

Can I use one Holafly eSIM in multiple countries?
Regional plans cover multiple countries in one region — the Europe eSIM covers 40+ countries, the Asia regional covers Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, and more. For worldwide multi-country travel, the monthly Plans subscription covers 160+ destinations on a single eSIM installation.
